Your Questions, Answered

What's your experience with Ruby on Rails and how does it align with this role?

I have extensive Ruby on Rails experience from both BenchPrep (2020-2024) and Groupon (2017-2020), where I built and maintained large-scale SaaS platforms. At BenchPrep, I worked as a full-stack developer and team lead, making architectural decisions including the transition to container-based development and charting our path to CI/CD. I partnered with product management, test engineering, and customer support to deliver high-quality features. At Groupon, I built experiment analysis tools working with data scientists and multiple departments. This senior-level experience with Rails, combined with my architectural thinking and cross-functional collaboration, directly matches your need for someone to make architectural decisions that drive your next generation platform.

Do you have experience building AI features and working with LLMs?

Yes, at BenchPrep I integrated AI features directly into our platform using OpenAI APIs. I crafted code to generate question content and suggest categories for clients, taking these features from initial ideas through implementation, delivery, and support. This hands-on experience shipping production AI features in a SaaS environment aligns perfectly with your need to prototype, ship, and launch AI features using LLMs and APIs. I'm also actively building with AI in my personal projects, including Ragtime, a Rails 8 + OpenAI RAG system with intelligent document processing. I stay current with AI-assisted development practices and publish a newsletter on AI-assisted productivity.

What's your frontend experience, particularly with React?

While my primary frontend experience is with Vue.js at BenchPrep, I have strong fundamentals in modern component-based JavaScript frameworks that transfer directly to React. I've built full-stack features and understand component lifecycle, state management, and modern JavaScript patterns. I'm currently developing TypeScript projects including Infection, a 2D grid-based game, which demonstrates my comfort with the TypeScript ecosystem that complements React development. My approach has always been polyglot—I enjoy learning new technologies and have successfully adapted to different stacks throughout my career. The component-based architecture principles I've mastered with Vue.js apply directly to React.

How do you approach remote work and collaboration?

I've successfully worked remotely at both BenchPrep and Groupon, collaborating across distributed teams with product managers, data scientists, test engineers, and customer support. I maintain strong communication through detailed documentation, technical talks, and creating training materials—at Groupon I even produced written and video training to help departments understand our tools. As a team lead at BenchPrep, I ran a Refactoring SIG and gave frequent technical talks to advance our collective knowledge. I'm comfortable with async communication, maintain a dedicated home office setup, and understand that successful remote work requires proactive communication, clear documentation, and building strong relationships across the team.

What excites you about this opportunity at CyberCoders?

Three things really stand out: First, your recent $200MM funding signals incredible growth momentum, and I'm energized by the opportunity to help scale your platform during this transformative phase. Second, your emphasis on integrating AI features into your CRM aligns perfectly with the work I loved at BenchPrep—building AI capabilities from concept to production. Third, the chance to make architectural decisions for your next generation platform alongside other very senior Rails developers is exactly the type of high-impact technical work I thrive on. Your remote-first culture, focus on ownership, and modern tech stack including AI tools demonstrates a forward-thinking engineering organization I want to be part of.

What's your experience with AWS and infrastructure technologies?

I have production AWS experience from Groupon where I used AWS services and worked with Terraform for infrastructure as code. I also led the transition to container-based development at BenchPrep, which required understanding infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and helping chart our path to CI/CD. I have extensive PostgreSQL experience from both BenchPrep and Groupon working with production databases at scale. While I may not have touched every specific AWS service you use, I have the infrastructure thinking and senior-level experience to quickly get up to speed with your specific stack including EC2, Lambda, IAM, VPC, and S3.

How do you approach building third-party integrations?

At Groupon, I built tools that integrated across multiple departments and enabled data-driven decisions through experiment analysis platforms. This required understanding different systems, APIs, and data flows while maintaining reliability and performance. At BenchPrep, our platform served the education market and needed to integrate seamlessly with existing workflows. I understand that your CRM integrates with leading FinTech brands and tools like Google and Outlook, which requires thoughtful API design, error handling, and maintaining partner relationships. My experience building tools that others depend on, combined with creating training materials and documentation, demonstrates I can deliver integrations that expand your platform's capabilities while remaining maintainable.
